Paul Eddy and Elizabeth Normen have been lifelong Hartford-area residents with deep ties to a number of arts organizations. Paul joined Travelers 40 years ago right out of UConn Law School and since 2009 has served as Group General Counsel for International Insurance at Travelers. Paul was a longtime board member of Riverfront Recapture. Travelers’ commitment to the arts introduced him to board service at Hill-Stead Museum and the Mark Twain House & Museum. Representing Travelers, Paul served on the board of Hill-Stead, and as its board president from 2010 to 2011. In 2016 he joined the Mark Twain House board, and currently serves as its board president. Through Travelers’ annual Greater Hartford Arts Council campaign, Paul and Elizabeth have generously donated to the arts through payroll deduction for more than 30 years.

Elizabeth joined Travelers right out of Smith College and in 1987 moved into arts management in the development office of the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art. In the mid-1990s, she served as interim director of Hill-Stead Museum before becoming executive director of the Edward C. & Ann T. Roberts Foundation, a private foundation that funds the arts in Hartford and the immediately surrounding towns, from 1997 to 2009. After earning a Master’s in American Studies from Trinity College in 2000, she co-founded Connecticut Explored, the nonprofit magazine of Connecticut history, for which she serves as president and publisher. Connecticut Explored also produces Grating the Nutmeg, the podcast of Connecticut history, and books and educational resources for grades K – 12 about Connecticut history including Where I Live: Connecticut (2017), and Venture Smith’s Colonial Connecticut (2019).

She is co-editor of African American Connecticut Explored (Wesleyan University Press, 2014). She currently serves on the board of The Amistad Center for Art & Culture. She has served on the boards of the Roberts Foundation, Connecticut Landmarks, and the Farmington Valley Arts Center.
