Call for Grant Review Panelists

The Greater Hartford Arts Council provides grants and services to nearly 150 local arts and cultural organizations each year. Our grantees are selected through an application review process led by community members and following guidelines meant to ensure maximum impact of grant dollars. The Arts Council is currently looking for volunteers to be a part of a review panel.

What makes a great panelist?

  • A passion for building strong, vibrant communities
  • Familiarity with the non-profit landscape of Greater Hartford
  • Knowledge of the region’s arts and cultural sector
  • General understanding of nonprofit management and operations

Grant panelists must also be residents of the State of Connecticut.

What’s involved?

As a panelist, you’ll review applications using specific criteria with a group of your peers to decide which applicants best meet the grant criteria. The committee will then determine how grant funds are allocated to each grant recipient. In addition, you’ll be asked to take the lead on an in depth review of 4 or 5 grant applications and present your findings to the group.

Specific commitments include:

  • One 2-hour panel orientation meeting
  • Up to 10 hours to read and review grant applications on your own
  • One 4-6 hour panel review meeting with your fellow panelists to select final grantees and allocate funds

This is a volunteer opportunity so no financial compensation is involved.  However, you will be helping to improve lives and transform communities through the arts.
