Curator Talk: Master Ivory Carvers

September 24 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Fraught with environmental, economic, and ecological consequences, the ivory market flourished in early modern Europe as explorers and hunters brought tusks poached from elephants across Africa to Europe for artisans to carve lavish and delicate luxury and ritual objects. Curator Linda Roth explores the ivories in Stories in Ivory and Wood Told by Master Carvers. Free with museum admission. Meet in front of the Museum Shop.
