Canton - The Gallery on the Green presents the Members’ Themed Exhibit:”Winter Blues” from February 8th through March 10th.  There are also solo shows by Stephanie Rogers (oil/acrylic) and David Owen (phototography). Gallery hours are Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.  The gallery is located near the intersection of Dowd Avenue and Route 44 at 5 Canton Green Road. There will be an opening reception with free refreshments on Saturday, February 9th from 6 – 9 pm.

Welcome to the basics of theatre! Children will be introduced to theatre through creative play. Exercises and games will focus on acting, storytelling, puppetry, music, and movement. A story will often be incorporated. In fact, most of the time the kiddos become the playwrights themselves! By the end of the class, students will be able to use their bodies and voices to start to create characters. While the emphasis of the class will focus on developing skills and not on a final performance, family and friends are invited to the last class to see students present a short script/ share day. Each session will have a theme. Themes will be announced during the first day of class! This class will cover: characters, emotions, tableau, props, setting, stage directions, pantomime, musicals, and themes. Possible Themes: Superhero’s, Under the Sea, Rockstars, Dr. Seuss, etc. Student Prerequisite: Students must be currently enrolled or have completed Kindergarten to register this class. Class Prerequisite: None! Note: It is strongly encouraged that you take this course for a full year before moving to the next class: PUTTIN ON A SHOW. Fee: $135. There is a once a year additional $15 registration fee.   Discount:Register and pay for all 3 sessions now and save 10%. We do offer a 10% sibling discount.

He has produced two books, Passing Time,a photographic meditation on life and death in his family, and The Year We Made Eye Contact,a compilation of photographs and essays by Hartford Courant staff photographers. “Frolic” art reception & printmaking demonstration

You are invited to an exhibit of artwork that will warm you this winter with smiles and good humor. Elizabeth Ann McNally is an artist and printmaker whose narrative work explores the nature of animals in a fun whimsical way. Her abstract art expresses the color relationships reflected in the natural world and focuses on the properties of the material and compositional elements. The public is invited to a free art reception and botanical printmaking demo Sunday Feb 17th 3-5 PM. About the printmaking demo: Collagraph printmaking uses texture and collage to create a uniquely different kind of print. Elizabeth will walk you through how to create, ink, and print a collagraph plate created from easily accessed materials such as pressed leaves and flowers.
