Art Explorers with Suzy Jorsey Balay

Students learn to express their creativity using varied art methods and materials to create personal works of art inspired by Museum pieces. Explore a different area of the collection with new projects each week. Art Explorers is led by artist Suzy Jorsey Balay, who received her B.F.A. from Paier College of Art. Suzy is a fiber artist who spins wool by hand, knits, and sews. She has been a dedicated teacher of Art Explorers for a number of years and continues to create engaging lessons for children. Details Ages 6-8 Drop-in students are welcome.

This program helps caregivers and young children discover art together in the Museum. Listen to a story and then explore line, shape, color, and other elements of art with teaching artist Margaret Freedman. Margaret has a B.A. in Fine Arts and an M.A. in Elementary Education. She has taught Art Start at the New Britain Museum since 2006 and is a certified Public School Teacher in Connecticut. She combines literacy with various artistic media to develop her innovative weekly programs that enhance the child’s experience here at the Museum. Details Ages 3-5 Drop-in students are welcome.

In this program, parents and caregivers learn how to share art with their babies by recognizing and responding to signs of visual stimulation. Led by Museum educators and docents, Museum & Me features guided gallery explorations and a sensory play session. Parents and caregivers will participate at every stage, so come ready to enjoy a special museum visit with your little one. Your Museum admission is good all day, and includes a “coffee break” during our play session. Strollers are welcome, and the spacious Stanley Works Center for Education & Community Development will be available for the duration of the class for anyone needing a break with their child.
