Your community needs your help!
The arts have a major impact on improving health, academic performance, quality of life, employee engagement, and even the economy. Now more than ever our communities need our help! By joining the United Arts Campaign, you can help us continue supporting dozens of local arts and cultural organizations that create nearly 4,000 performances, exhibitions, and showcases in our region; 7,000 local full-time jobs; and an arts education to over 100,000 local students. All of that begins with one gift. Help us build a vibrant cultural community for all today.
The arts are the backbone of our community.
According to research from National Endowment for the Arts, 72% of Connecticut adults attend arts and cultural events, while nearly 57% identify as artists.
The arts empower us.
Performance art like "In My Shoes" by the Judy Dworin Performance Project gives previously incarcerated women the opportunity to redefine themselves as they reintigrate with society, develop camaraderie with fellow artists, and foster understanding among audiences.
The arts heal us.
From reducing depression and stress to improving pain management and mindfulness, the arts can significantly improve our health and quality of life. In 2016, the Arts Council supported the Veterans Art Foundation’s mask-making workshops, a form of art therapy for veterans who are having difficulty transitioning from combat to domestic life.
The arts drive our economy.
The arts and cultural sector is the third largest employer in CT & accounts for 8% of the state economy. The arts industry in Greater Hartford generates over $230 million in economic activity.
The arts improve academic performance.
Students with four years of art or music in high school average 100 points higher on the SAT than students with only a one-half year of arts or music. These students also tend to have higher GPA scores and lower dropout rates.

Hear from our grantees directly:
“We at the Wadsworth Atheneum are exceedingly grateful for the funding we receive from the Greater Hartford Arts Council. Each year the award we receive enables us to meet vital needs that aren’t always covered by other revenue sources. This year, the museum’s successful grand reopening was made possible in part by the Arts Council, its dynamic team of do-gooders, and its generous donors. Without these incredible people, HARTford would just be Hartford. Thanks GHAC!” – Amanda Young, Director of Communications & Marketing, Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art
“Our shows are big – some of the best! And after 30 years of handwriting reservations (tens of thousands per year), our penmanship is pretty good too. But this year we couldn’t be more grateful for the support that GHAC provides because we are finally – yes finally – buying a ticketing system. It’ll be better for us and better for our audience and we couldn’t do it without GHAC general operating support. Thanks GHAC for all you do. We’re 30 years in this together.” – -Freddie McInerney, Director of Marketing and Communications, TheaterWorks
