Artspace invites emerging and mid-career artists from all fields to apply for our one year Artist-in-Residence program. Submission deadline: Friday, Dec 21, 2018 at 11:59 PM First round interviews will be conducted in January 2019, in person or via Skye.  Selected applicants will be notified by January 25, 2019. The Residency will begin August 1, 2019 and end July 31, 2020. Studio Amenities Studio 1: The first floor 250 sq. ft. solo studio at Artspace includes free wifi, access to Artspace’s kitchen, additional secure storage in Artspace’s basement. The studio has a 14′ x 9′ plywood-backed sheet rock wall, track lights, slop sink and separate entrance. The second entrance is accessible by a private driveway where vehicles can unload large or heavy artworks, objects and equipment. Studio 2 and 3: The shared studio at Marlin Works includes free wifi, access to 2 slop sinks, a freight elevator, extra storage space, and free parking.  Artists in the Marlin Works building will have round the clock access to the amenities at Artspace listed above. None of these studios are living spaces and we do not compensate room and board, though we can help you find a living space within the bustling community of working artists. Solo Exhibition The residencies will culminate in a solo exhibition of the work creating during the year. Artists may choose to produce a print-on-demand publication, film screening or program series in place of this exhibition. Work Exchange In exchange for our support of your work, we ask that you contribute to the Artspace team by working the equivalent of 10 hours/ month, or 120 hours over the course of your time with us. Duties will reflect the capacities, areas of interest and expertise of each Artist-in-Residence, but may include: assisting with installations, gallery sitting, staffing an opening reception or event and/or helping to organize our archives. Community Integration We invite and encourage our Artist-in-Residence to get involved in our public programs, special event series and education initiatives. The Artist-in-Residence will also be invited to serve on our Curatorial Advisory Board (CAB), an elected board of working arts professionals based in and around New Haven.
