Zen is simplicity itself. The philosophy repeats that you are already at a place of acceptance. You are already there. You had what you needed all along.

This class on Zen Painting will encourage students to refine their contemplation and learn how to simplify reality into fine art with black and gray watercolor. Instructor Karen Sprague will lead students in investigating the quality of line and to better the quality of their brushstrokes, using both wet and try techniques. In a brushstroke, there is a beginning, a middle, and an end. Students will practice brushstrokes by working from art resources including leaves, landscapes, people, and some calligraphy.

Karen will provide examples of modern art that are influenced by Zen painting. Other reference materials will be provided. Students are encouraged to also bring in reference materials and images they would like to work from.

Learn to say a lot with a little.
