Drawing the Portrait in Graphite

  • Wethersfield Academy for the Arts 431 Hartford Avenue Wethersfield, CT, 06109 United States (map)

Students will explore drawing a long pose portrait in a comparative measure method with graphite. Through demonstration, discussion, and critique, each student will create a carefully rendered portrait. Discussions will focus on the structure and proportion of the skull, conceptualizing and rendering form, and the properties of light to obtain the likeness of the model. Reference to the skeleton and master works will be made to elevate our conceptual understanding of the portrait.
