Arts & Economic Prosperity 6

Change the conversation.

The arts uplift, educate, and inspire.

In 2017, the nonprofit arts industry generated $166.3 billion in economic activity, supporting 4.6 million jobs and generating $27.5 billion in government revenue. Guess how many arts organizations were partially responsible? It’s less than you think.

Just over 100,000 nonprofit arts organizations and hundreds of thousands more individual artists and administrators continuously create content and experiences for families, schools, donors, businesses, and communities from modest rural towns to large urban metropolitan centers.

The Greater Hartford Arts Council is embarking on a region-wide survey to examine the economic impact of our local arts and culture organizations and their audiences. Arts & Economic Prosperity 6 (AEP6) is the sixth national study conducted by Americans for the Arts to gauge the economic impact (on employment, government revenue, and household income) of spending by nonprofit arts and culture organizations and the event-related spending by their audiences.

From May 2022 through April 2023, the Arts Council will be partnering with arts organizations to conduct on-site surveys with audiences across our 34-town service area.
