Deep Ellum Duo at The Buttonwood Tree

Middletown, CT: On Saturday, June 17th at 8 PM, The Buttonwood Tree presents the musical showcase of jazz-blues group Tony Davis & The Bonanza. Admission is $15.

Tony Davis is an internationally renowned guitarist and composer based in New York City. He regularly performs in NYC’s top venues such as The Blue Note, Birdland, Smalls, and Mezzrow. He has played at the Newport Jazz Festival and currently leads several projects such as his trio, solo guitar and voice, and a co-led duo with Brazilian vocalist Jamile. He has recently toured internationally, playing at Mexico City’s Zinco, Jazzatlan, Parker & Lenox, and Casa Franca. In 2019 Davis was signed by the Posi-Tone record label. He released his debut album, “Golden Year,” which features an all-star lineup of some of modern-day’s most acclaimed jazz musicians, such as Dezron Douglas, Eric McPherson, and Steve Wilson. Since then, he signed with La Reserve Records for his co-led album with vocalist, Jamile, “Daring Two Be,” released in 2022.

"One of the bright lights of the next generation" - Guitarist Peter Bernstein.

Tony’s latest project accentuates his abilities as a songwriter and lyricist. His compositions communicate lessons learned from life’s vicissitudes while maintaining a voice full of youthful optimism. His distinctly earnest and melodic music takes the listener through a kaleidoscope of unconventional blends of genres. From nostalgic ballads to electrifying grooves, he tells stories that share the common thread of healing, gratitude and transcending internal barriers.

His initial influences on the guitar come from Jimi Hendrix and other blues artists like Blind Blake and Buddy Guy. Furthermore, being the son of two acclaimed jazz musicians, he inherited a deep love and connection to the jazz language of artists like John Coltrane and Bud Powell from a young age. Over time, he has developed his voice by weaving the sounds of his early influences with the lyricism of singer-songwriters & folk artists such as The Beatles and Grizzly Bear and the intricate harmony and rhythms of Cuban and Brazilian music.

Tony is planning to record a new album next year under the La Reserve record label, whom he recently signed with. He is currently piecing together a summer tour of the northeast with his new project.
