Level 1
Paper quilling, also called paper filigree, is a European 15th century paper craft. This paper art has experienced a resurgence in popularity during the last few years. You can find paper quilling incorporated into scrapbooking, card making, monograms, paper flowers, jewelry, wall art and even advertisements. It is incredible how you can make complicated shapes and patterns from simple paper strips and glue!
This is an introductory class to paper quilling. We will be making various scrolls and rolls. Getting ourselves familiar with rolling strips of paper, releasing them and pinching them into shapes. These shapes will be turned into flowers, leaves or other desired shapes. You will design your work in a 5” x 7” frame. The four featured designs are flowers (in a basket or pot), heart, tree and cat. These projects are curated based on your comfort level, what you can achieve within the time frame of the class.
Each student will be given a customized quilling kit that I’ve put together. A couple of the tools are even handmade! You will get a 5x7 picture frame and maybe a card or two if you have time. Paper of various colors is also provided, some pre-cut and some we will cut ourselves.
