Michael Rice

Michael Rice is a self–taught visual artist based in Hartford, CT. His work, at once arresting and inviting, is a direct reflection of our current times – an age in which the lines between our digital and physical worlds continue to blur. Often engaging with the viewer in a seemingly relentless fashion, Rice’s work draws parallels to our world's dichotomous transformation and provides perspective on the emergence of a new paradigm – one filled with limitless potential, but also new challenges.

“I know I can’t change circumstance. BUT maybe, just maybe, I can alter perception.”

Flawlessly blending art into public spaces.

“Modeled after a woman named Roxy who works as a parking attendant, I painted this was as a reminder to us all that no matter our differences, no matter our backgrounds, no matter our circumstances, we all have the same red blood running through our veins and we all have the power to shift our perspectives.”

Michael Rice created his mural “Concrete & Kindness” in partnership with the Greater Hartford Arts Council. Thank you to the Hartford Parking Authority for their partnership in providing this canvas.
