Wadsworth Atheneum
1pm Gallery Talk – Reservation required, Meet in front of the Museum Shop | 2pm Concert – Enter through Avery Lobby
Members of the Hartford Symphony Orchestra present a concert of chamber music at the Wadsworth Atheneum in conjunction with the special exhibition Fired Up: Glass Today. Join curator Brandy Culp for a gallery talk before the concert highlighting the work of more than 50 glassmakers who are pushing boundaries and forging new paths in contemporary glass. $30; $25 for HSO subscribers and Wadsworth members.
Arvo Pärt’s hypnotizing Fratres and beautifully simple Spiegel im Spiegel encapsulate the intricacy and purity of the glass works included in the Fired Up: Glass Today. HSO 2022-2023 Joyce C. Willis Artist-in-Residence Quinn Mason’s sparkling 2 Fleeting Daydreams is self-described by the composer as “high velocity” and a set of “illuminations.” Austrian composer Hans Gál’s Serenade Op. 93 is rooted in Western European music traditions, but features a playful nature, and Robert Schumann’s Phantasiestücke, Op. 88 is a sumptuous Romantic close to the program.
Reservations are required for the gallery talk and tickets will be available at www.thewadsworth.orgapproximately one month in advance of the concert.
